CSNTS Mission Statement:
USNA Command Seamanship Navigation Training Squadron
Mission Statement:
"We teach sailing
here...for one purpose, to make competent seamen of our midshipmen...We aren't interested
in making yachtsmen of them...we send them to sea to learn the fundamental characteristic of the
professional seaman: a deep seated humility in the face of nature...(and) to produce the best
possible officer for the fleet." CAPT J. B. Bonds, USN(Ret), Former Director

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary moves ahead
on Safety in the nations waterways. Shown at left when he was Division Captain
of Flotilla 22 in Coast Guard District 13,
is Fred Bell,
a native of Monongahela, PA. He now lives in Bellingham, Washington.
Effective
26 February 2005, Fred
Bell was promoted to
Commodore for the Coast
Guard District 13 Auxiliary. Congratulations Fred!
In addition to being a capable mariner, Commodore Bell is a gentleman of liberal education, refined manners, punctilious courtesy, and the nicest sense of personal honor.
Following
is printed from a recent
USCG Auxiliary Newsletter:
Commodore Fred Bell is a good man, kind, knowledgeable, patient, and a
very fair and wise man. Seemingly reserved but a very approachable
Commodore. Commodore Bell recently reminded a fairly new Flotilla 19
member that just because he is District 13s Commodore is no reason to
lose sight of the fact that he is a fellow Flotilla 19 member, one who is
open to mentor, to answer questions, and listen to concerns.
At a recent Division Change
of Watch Dinner, Commodore Bell listed
three priorities for 2005, recruitment, public affairs, and recognition. He
said find your twin, reach out to the public, and give recognition to your
fellow hard working Auxiliarists.
Commodore Bell wrote We are team members, we will work
together, and we will accomplish great things. Commodore Bell
understands and appreciates what is behind the theme, One Auxiliary,
One Team, One Thirteen. Below at right is Fred as a
soldier at Monongahela High School Senior Day 1951. It appears that Fred decided
to follow his sea legs!

Tom Johns:
Former President of Maximo Marine Service,
which used to be the foremost
repair/refurbish facility on Florida's suncoast, servicing sailboats as well as
power vessels. I had my boat hauled every year
from 1991 through 2005 for bottom jobs and other service.
I no longer recommend Maximo
after it jacked it's rate from 30$/foot to $40/foot in one year from 2004 to
2005. Also, they didn't wash down the deck topside before I left the yard. If
this sounds like a disgruntled customer, it should. Nobody enjoys getting ripped
off!
